Worth Every Penny

In NY. Right now. And I have tickets for 3 (of the 4)!
While sitting at work going over emails and killing some time yesterday afternoon, I saw an email from BAM reminding me that the King and Country cycle (four of Shakespeare's histories--Richard II, Henry IV pt 1, Henry IV pt 2, and Henry V--performed in rep) is touring from the RSC starting this weekend. I click on the link to check it out and pretty immediately realize that one of my favorite actors, Antony Sher, is playing Falstaff in the Henry IV's (well, one of my favorites from a distance. I've never seen him perform live, but his book on becoming Richard III, Year of the King, is one of the best acting books I've ever read. I reread it anytime I need a little extra inspiration digging into a hard role, especially a Shakespearean character. AND he wrote one on becoming Falstaff--Year of the Fat Knight--that I just bought from Amazon). Anyway, back to ticket prices...Wheeeeeeew, yeah they were expensive. So, I hemmed and hawed, but eventually decided it was worth it, took the plunge and bought em!

I am still trying to get a ticket to see David Tennant in his sold out run as Richard II (apparently those have been sold out forever, but BAM encourages interested parties to do stand-by, lining up before the show to see if there are any returned tickets, AND they have a $30 TodayTix lottery, so when I'm available I will be heading that direction hoping to get lucky. Keep your fingers crossed for some lotto/ticket return luck!), especially because it is the only one of the four shows that I have never seen. As of now I am seeing Henry IV pt 1 this Saturday, Henry IV pt 2 next Saturday, and Henry V next Sunday. Yeah, I'm real excited! Shakespeare! Done by the masters! In my city! In my borough! Guys, this is happening!

And you KNOW I will be devouring Tony Sher's book the second it lands in my lap. Yeeeeees!

Just got the reminder email about Saturday night's show. Oh yeah, my upcoming ticket to BAM is in my purse. You better believe I am ready to go!
