Two Months Later...

So... This happened...
Well, I know it's been forEVER, but it's because I've been crazy busy yoga-ing and applying for jobs and exploring my new city and going out with friends and going to the beach and procrastinating with Netflix and trying to stay cool (as in the temperature. I'm always cool as in awesome) and making new friends and teaching private yoga classes and setting up an in-home studio and drinking lots of beer and completely re-organizing my apartment and and and and...

Suffice it to say, this summer may have been lacking in funds (as in money going INTO the bank account), but it has not been lacking in FUN! (YEAH, come back with a PUN, bitches! You know you missed me)

So far, no bites on the job front, but I have taught two private yoga classes this week (thanks Maridee and Diana!) and have one scheduled for tomorrow morning with Jess, am going on 14 days in a row practicing yoga (usually at LEAST 90 min a day, excluding teaching) and am generally in a much better mood that I probably should be since I am pretty much hemorrhaging money.

This week, I did a whole "spend nothing all week" thing. And with the exception of bills (insurance, YA registration, and MTA--not CHEAP, but necessary), I've been 6/6! All right. That's all I've got in me for now.

But I'll try to update this more often from now on. Sorry about that long-ass hiatus, guys (read:mom). I love you!

Change is Everything

Where I'm gonna be doing my teacher training starting MONDAY!
Well, I've been doing yoga for six or seven years, and starting on Monday, I step up to learn A WHOLE LOT MORE and hopefully become a yoga teacher! I am really excited about it, but CRAZY nervous. I've gone to yoga four times this week and hope to go tomorrow, too...

Yep, the best way to prepare is to practice. And read some of the books that I ordered from Amazon all about yoga. There's a bunch. And they're real big.

Working Girl

NYU elevator warning.
So, lots of WSF shows in NYU theaters and halls, and this warning is in all the elevators. It always makes me giggle.

Plus, yesterday the Science and Story event I worked had Rebecca Skloot speaking, the author of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. It was awesome! I got to meet her, and help her fix her bra strap, and talk to her! It was rad.

Prospect Park-ing

My day on Sunday. Prospect Park. All day.
YES! It's summer weather and with last week being Memorial Day weekend, and my last free time before I started WSF2015 and then head straight into yoga teacher training...

Yup. Needed some park time for sure!

World Science Always!

Eating lunch in front of this last week. And this is what I'm doing THIS week.
World Science Festival all weekend! A quick lil five day job (that my roomie, Aislinn, runs) right before I start my yoga teacher training on Monday.

I am actually working both these events, too. With a astronaut. I am astronaut-sitting the next two days. (SQUEEEEEE!)

Lil Stinker

What? Can you see me?
She's a lil shit, but I love her! And seriously, she's a lil shit. She always wants to be ON MY LAP, especially when I'm eating food. And climbs all over everything. And gets into everything. But I still love her!

This was sometime last week.

Classic Pin-Up Style

Giant Marilyn poster!
One of the last errands I ran last Friday was to Stout to grab my check and my favorite manager gave me this giant (comes up to my elbow) poster of Marilyn! He and his bf are redecorating their place and this didn't fit anywhere, so he thought of me! And brought it to Stout last Friday to give it to me! w00t!

I haven't hung it up yet, but I know just where I'm gonna put it.

Madison Square Eats!

two tablespoons at Mad Square Eats!
Ran ALL THE ERRANDS last Friday! (and again today!) Ate here in between running errands. Yes, yes, and more yes! It was super good.

Spring into Summer

The irises are blooming!
Close up!
So, it's officially summer weather here in NY (and yes, I'm all caught up from when the fam was here. Get used to more blog updates and quicker blogposts).

Yay! Can't believe how quickly it went from 50's to 80's. But it's still not too hot yet.

Chrysler Building (at Night!)

In Union Square we saw the Chrysler Building at night! And some guy's head got in the way.
Tried to get a pic of the Chrysler Building at night, and then some guy walked RIGHT into the frame.

Awesome.

NY Institutions!

Finally had a pastrami on rye here!
Yup, took the vegetarian to Katz's, but hey! I'd never been! It was right there! And I was hungry! (It was really good, too.)

One! Two! Three Strikes! Who Cares?

Yankee Stadium, for baseball this time!
It was a gorgeous night!
Friday was Seestor time and, while we didn't get the tattoos that we had wanted to get together, we did go shopping and Seestor really nailed it with a bunch of swimsuits and jeans. And I got a tank top. And some sports bras. Hers was more exciting.

AND I took her to Shake Shack!

Then we met the parents (who'd been doing a walking tour of Greenwich) for the Yankee game! It was so weird though. They were playing the Orioles, so... we didn't really care who won (the Yankees).

Then the Seestor and I met Jess and went out in the East Village.

Flat(ten that) Iron!

Flatiron Building, one of my favs!
Side view!
The Seestor, Pam and I split off from the father so he could go to a Cornell football reunion and I took them to the Flatiron Building and we went shopping around 5th Ave and into Union Square. Good times. I was able to get a BUNCH of yoga workout stuff (since I've split 2 pairs of pants in the crotch) and the Seestor got a good scarf.

Then we wandered into the LES to grab foodz, met up the Father, and the Seestor and I had fun grabbing one more drink before heading home. She then, unfortunately, headed uptown thinking, "I don't wanna head downtown because that's into midtown" forgetting that my city is so big that we have uptown (Harlem/Bronx), midtown (Times Square) and downtown (FiDi/Brooklyn). Yeah. She didn't get home until REEEEEEAAAAAL late... Sorry Seestor!

MoMA Get it Done!

I'd never seen this painting before. It's Alexandra Exter, called Theatrical Composition.
A Klimpt I'd never seen before! Love it!
Starry Night! YAY!
Picasso!
Hadn't been to MoMA since I visited friends here... Uh... upwards of 5-6 years ago, so it was great to go. Usually I hate pictures of art in galleries, but I did take a couple (mostly to send to la mama!) and also to remember what art I liked. Plus, Dad had somehow NEVER BEEN to MoMA! So, it was fun to introduce him to some of my favorite art works! Live! In person!

Trumped Up

Not in front of 30 Rockefeller Plaza. In front of the Trump Tower.
So... 30 Rock lied to me! Though this is the same area (right around Columbus Circle) as 30 Rock, it's not in front of the building. So, I took a bunch of pics and then kinda got upset. But still, really cool pic!

My New Job!

Wait? You didn't know!
So, saw this in Midtown after Top of the Rock. Hilarious!

Top of the (30) Rock!

Sun setting over the Hudson (onto Jersey) from Top of the Rock!
Empire State Building at night!
Empire State Building at dusk!
Hudson river to the GIANT-ness of Central Park
Top of the Rock was FANTASTIC! Insane amounts of people, but really gorgeous views! Especially right during the sunset! Glad to finally see how GIGANTIC my city (albeit, not my borough) is!

Curiosity Killed the Dog

Family "groupie" in from of the Barrymore Theatre marquee!
We went to see the Tony nominee for Best Play (among others!), The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime for my (early) birthday giftie from the fan! GREAT SHOW! Amazing seats! Really, really good time! It should def win the Tony. Just sayin'.

Out of the (Frying) Pan, Into the Fire

View of the sunset from The Frying Pan
For Cinco de Mayo dinner, I took the family to The Frying Pan, a barge tied to the Chelsea Pier where they had margaritas, Cinco de Mayo swag giveaways, and some Mexican food specials. We got there pretty early, and left before the craziness ensued, but it's definitely one of my favorite spots for foodz/drinkz in Chelsea and the West Side.

Then, since it was still pretty early, the Seestor came back with me and we went for a night run along Eastern Parkway and into Bed-Stuy and we saw the Empire State Building all lit up! I didn't know I could see that from my neck of the woods! It was pretty cool.

Needless to say, that day culminated as a 30,000+ step day... Yesh. Tired.

And, so am I an hour later... The rest of the week(!) will be updated... some other time...

Grafitti (or is it)?

These are really awesome metal sculptures made to look like graffiti on the walls behind it.

This one's the hardest to see, but still pretty rad. Graffiti the sky!
This was some of the art along the Highline.

And below is one of the coolest wall paintings that we saw.
These are all over NY. I think because there's not that much sky space for billboards...

On the Line

Empire State Building from the Highline!
I found where the trains live!
The Highline is pretty awesome. It's an old converted above ground train line that they converted into a walking path allowing the natural weeds, flowers, trees that pushed themselves up through the old train tracks to continue to grow, while adding a bunch more flora and a walking path with differently curated art installations throughout. There's even a little pagoda with food and drink. It's pretty rad.

The (Other) Market

There's a cookbook! (We almost bought it for you, mama, but then thought you have enough cookbooks...)
Chelsea Market clock surrounded by shimmerlights
After we got off the train in Chelsea (after a little bit of train confusion by me... Whoops. The Seestor distracted me), we wandered through Chelsea Market and the Seestor got a couple cool things (a bracelet! A ring!), I got a cool thing (a scarf!), Pam got a cool thing (a bag!), and we picked up a Mom's Day giftie for la mama (another bag!).

Everyone loved Chelsea Market, as I knew they would, and we finished it with gelato!

Cinco de Walk-o

Brooklyn Bridge! First time walking across it!
Tuesday was Cinco de Mayo and it started with Jacki, Kent & Ben heading back up to Ithaca before Lindy, Dad and Pam met me at my place and we headed to High Street to walk the Brooklyn Bridge. I'd never walked it before (Jess and I did the Williamsburg Bridge back in October), and it dumped us off right back in FiDi where we grabbed a coffee before heading into Chelsea.

The Seestor at the start of the walk.
Second Seestor Selfie!
View of downtown from the bridge!

Sounders til I Die!

Me in my gear! With the Supporters Shield! YEEEEEES!
We met at Carlow before the Sounders v NYCFC game on Sunday (we won 3-1!) and the Supporter's Shield made the trip to NY, too! And I got to touch it!

Plus, it was my first time to Yankee Stadium! Very much with the fun!
Game at kick off!
THE HUGE MOON (again)! (Still not full. Not full until Monday)

Obama Was in Town!

That's Marine One landing behind that one guy's head
Oh yeah, and Obama was in town on Monday, so we saw his helicopter landing right before we got onto the ferry. So, that happened. Only in New York.

Never Forget

One of the Infinity Pools where the North Tower used to be...
On Monday we met sorta early to head to the 9/11 Museum (completely overwhelming and super sad... Kinda don't think I could do it again) and spent four or five hours wandering around it. It was super hard knowing all the streets that they were talking about since I worked right down there for so long and knew all the streets around there...

Afterwards, we grabbed lunch in FiDi and headed along the waterfront to take the Staten Island ferry and see Lady Liberty and the gorgeous views of downtown! And they were indeed GORGEOUS!!!

Brooklyn Bridge (forefront) and Manhattan Bridge (behind) right as we took off from the dock
Closest view I got of the Statue of Liberty!
Uptown view from the Staten Island Ferry
Downtown view from the Staten Island Ferry

Mambo Italiano!

First Seestor selfie! On the way to dinner at La Nonna Rosa with the WHOLE FAMILY.
Yay! Full family time! I met a lot of my cousins' husbands (who I haven't met, 'cause theatre) and got to see the cousins again and catch up with Aunt Ann and Uncle Paul and then splitting off to head back to my place (where I saw the ridiculous MOOOOOON) to prepare for the big fight.

That turned out to be a total dud. Boo. And Pacquio didn't even win. Stupid. But still! Went to the local bar for the first time! And I wasn't the only white person!
