Lazy Girl

I got some shit done yesterday
Well, didn't make it up to Harlem to pick up a bedside table, but I got a number of other things done yesterday: laundry, paid some bills, dropped off some mail, picked up some more (officially have my insurance card! Yes! I can go to the doctor now if I need to!), cooked foods for the week, and created a FreshDirect order with the roomies that I'll schedule once I see what day I'm off next week.

And then I actually slept. I wasn't sure if I'd be able to. I remember last year's lead up to the Superbowl and how I really couldn't sleep at all, so I was kinda surprised. Tonight, however, will be a different thing entirely.

Since there's a UFC pay-per-view fight today I'm assuming I'll be stuck at work tonight for at least twelve hours... But hopefully I'll make some monies. Blearg. I just wanna focus on my Hawks.

L.O.B.oy Band

Earl, Kam, Sherm, Byron Maxwell, and Jeremy Lane. These are my boys. And they totes look like a boy band.
This is my new Facebook cover photo. And I can't stop giggling about it. They seriously look like a 90's boy band. With Sherman as the front man, obvi.

This pic is killing me! I seriously cannot wait until Sunday. Just did laundry and washed all my Hawks gear (socks, undies, arm warmers), so that they will be so fresh and so clean, clean for Sunday! Now, just cross your fingers that I don't work early Monday morning. And that my LOB (or really anyone of my Hawks boys) forces the first Pats fumble of the year and returns it for a TD. I want those cheaters to HURT!

Go Hawks! Also, please enjoy Beast Mode vs Gronk playing Mortal Kombat on Conan. It's 11 minutes, but it's so hilarious. Totes worth it. #caw

Disappointing Finish

It's mostly left over from Monday and Tuesday...
So, I did NOT wake up to a winter wonderland today... Unfortunately. So there will be no playing in the snow on my day off... It mostly looks like the picture above. Leftover snow from the "blizzard" not new fun snow to play in from last night... I guess that means I have to do laundry... boo...

I have also been on craigslist and gypsy furniture all morning trying to see if I can get a nightstand for not too much monies and am fb messaging with a chick up in Harlem about one right now, so I might take a little trip uptown to pick it up, but we will see.

One more shifty tomorrow before brunch with the roomies on Sunday and then...SUPERBOWL! YES!!!!!

A Light Dusting

This is what it looked like when I got off the subway today.
We actually had a busy shift at work! Yay! Lunch was only meh, but I had a feeling everyone was gonna want to come in and get shitty today after work and I was right! Yay! It was busy enough that I was L/D2 and I didn't get cut until 10 or so... Hopefully that means the point will be OK and I'll actually have made a little monies this week (the rest of the week has been so bad that I've been home before 9 every night! INSANE!)...

Saturday there's a UFC fight, so I'm torn. I both wanna make the monies and wanna get cut earlier... Blearg. I just hope the shift goes by quickly and that SUPERBOWL SUNDAY COMES SOOOOOOON!

Also, all my grand plans of laundry and getting things done tomorrow may not happen if it keeps snowing because SNOW DAY! I wanna play in the snow! When I got off work I ran across the street to Jubilee, the grocery store, and as I was leaving for the train station I thought I felt and saw some snow, but I thought, "no, couldn't be snowing. it's probably just snow falling from the building above", but as I kept walking I realized it actually WAS snowing. Then, when I emerged from the subway at Kingston, I saw it was REALLY snowing in BK and there was even a little dusting on the ground already! It's barely cold enough to be sticking, but hey! I'll take it!

Beast Mode is everywhere!

This is a local brewery! Love this!
Yup, heard about this at the beer meeting last week! Almost bought it today just for the name. But it's a porter... AND I'm only drinking one day a week through January, so... I didn't BUT IT EXISTS!

Marshawn and his Beast Mode is everywhere!

Expect the Unexpected

Yup, it's pretty much just slush now...
Today's walk to work was much less terrifying than yesterday. The sidewalks are completely clear and the only sketchy part is when you need to traverse the frozen slush piles of death in order to cross the street. Other than that? Yup, this blizzard is kaput.

Might get another snowy blast Friday and it'll be cold for a while (I mean, it's no Seattle), but it looks like we're done with the whole terrifying winter thing.

Sno(w)pe

On my walk to work this morning. Somewhere between 6" & 12" in Bk.
Yeah, I was right. Nothing doing today. I actually argued with one of my managers this morning about it. She was SURE that people were gonna go stir crazy and want to get a drink at a bar, while I was sure that everyone was gonna hole up and enjoy their snow day since they'd have to go back to work tomorrow. I was right. So boring. So. Boring.

Oh wells. Home by 7 two days in a row and tomorrow I am lunch only and I'm OK with that, too. Probs gonna be just as boring tomorrow since everyone's gonna have to buckle down and get the work done tomorrow that they couldn't do at home today.

Snow What?

Yeah, it doesn't look like this
It snowed. It snowed a LOT. But it did not snow the 20-30 inches and the city is reopening. Slowly. But it IS reopening.

So, I'm going to work. Where I will have no customers and make no money. But I'm going. Woo. Hoo.

Everything's Closed

First time the MTA's voluntarily shutdown the subway for snow. Ever.
Well, my phone FREAKED OUT and started beeping and vibrating to tell me that not only are all vehicles, with the exception of emergency vehicles,  not allowed on NYC roads after 11pm today, but that the subway, LIRR, PATH, and pretty much every other mode of transport is done at least for the night and definitely until "further notice" according to Governor Cuomo.

So... this is a thing.

It's my first blizzard.

I am so excited.

Cross your fingers that work is closed tomorrow. Please. I wanna watch LoTR and wander around Prospect Park in the snow. Not make no money in an empty bar.

Winter-ific Blizzard

Brooklyn on my walk home. 3 or 4 inches. More expected.
Whelp, they didn't overstate this. It is legit blizzard conditions out there and only expected to get worse (better? At this point, I don't even know). Tonight it might get as bad as 2-4" per hour! Until tomorrow afternoon!

Honestly, I have no idea how I'm gonna get to work tomorrow. They're talking about shutting the trains down at 11PM tonight, so we'll see about tomorrow. Gonna get up early and just hope I can get into work. Figure if I'll get points for showing up and probably not have to stay too late because no one will be at work or out or anything.

Tonight after 11PM there's gonna be no more cars out on the road except emergency vehicles. It's just getting real interesting up here.

Blizzard Warning

Might get up to 20-30 inches.
I forgot to say we might have a bit of a blizzard sometime in the next few days. Possibly 20-30 inches in some places. So, yeah. Send me good vibes because I don't want to have to get to work in blizzard conditions. The warning is in effect from 1pm tomorrow through midnight on Wednesday.

So, keep me in mind.

Hawks Colors Errywhere

My left hand. The right is opposite: blue, green, blue, green, blue.
Yay! I'll be rocking this all week long. When I told the lady who did them why I was getting such strange colors, she asked when the Superbowl was and then when I told her it was in a week asked why I was getting my nails done so early. Uh, 'cause I wanna rock my allegiance the whole week leading up to the Superbowl? Obvi. I'm a bit obsessed with my boys.

The Tortoise in This Move-In Race

This was free. Just sitting in a garbage pile 6 blocks from my apartment.
Well, I got my exercise in for the day. Woke up early after getting off of work around 9PM last night and hanging out, watching a movie, ordering in Mexican food, and drinking some beerz. But I went back to sleep (because I know I'm not going to get to sleep in again for a while) until noon. Whoops. Oh wellz.

I went ahead and got up and since I had to go to the UES to grab and pay for my Superbowl party ticket at Carlow East (it was cheaper to pay in person), I figured I'd run a number of errands and get my nails done Hawks colors and maybe do a little shopping (someone's birthday is coming up soon, isn't it?) before heading home.

And when I got off the subway I decided to walk from Utica instead of taking the 3 to Kingston like I usually would because, well, to be honest, I wanted to hit my step goal for the day. Since I am only used to getting on the subway at Utica, I got a little turned around on Eastern Parkway and started walking the wrong direction. This was super annoying until I figured it out, started walking in the right direction, and almost instantly saw the shelf. It was kinda far away and I almost decided against it until I changed my mind and went back muscling it home with pure strength of will and ending up with a good couple of bruises on my left hip bone and shoulder, as well as arms so sore it's difficult to hold my phone. Tomorrow will be interesting at work since holding a tray full of drinks is a regular occurrence.

But FURNITURE! I have furniture! Or, at least, one piece of it! And it was free! Bonus, no more boxes! Now I just need a bedside table and at least one lamp.

White Magic

My view as I walked outta the subway tunnel early this morning
Yesterday I wore my converse for the first time in months (as opposed to my boots that I've been living in all Winter) and, of course, it snowed. Huge flakes coming down hard starting around midnight and coming down harder and faster and starting to stick around 2:30 when I left work.

Knowing it was snowing and starting to stick in FiDi, I knew it would be thicker and deeper in Brooklyn, and boy howdy it was! So gorgeous! I love the NYC snow. Lots of people don't because it gets so dirty so quickly, but I think it just makes everything so singular. A quiet elegance.

Of course, at some point this morning, it turned to rain and is now almost gone, but I feel grateful I was able to witness its white beauty in the middle of the night. It made my closing shift so magical.

Tonight I work a swing (5pm to whenever they decide they are done with me) and tomorrow I head to Carlow to pay for my Superbowl ticket since I have SUPERBOWL SUNDAY OFF WORK! So happy! Now I just hope that I don't work too early in the AM on Monday...

So Close

Seriously. So Close.
I'm almost better. I mean, so close to being better. Like, I just need my stupid nose to stop running and all will be well. I've been sleeping so much. So. Much. And am so close to kicking this stupid thing.

Now, I just have to head to a (hopefully) busy close tonight and work a (potentially boring) swing shift tomorrow before another day off on Sunday. Also, today I hope to see on next week's schedule that I have the Superbowl off. So, cross your fingers for me. Because I am about to buy a ticket to Carlow's Superbowl party and I will NOT be working on 2/1.

But mostly, I want to feel better. I want to stop blowing my nose every five minutes and I want to stop coughing. And I want to wake up without feeling like I'm still fighting something.

Glendale Bound

We'll see you in two weeks, Brady.
Well, I'm not heading there, but... MY BOYS ARE! In the most stunning of all come-from-behind victories in the last 3 minutes of regulation and first 5 of overtime, we scored three touchdowns and our second trip in a row to the SuperBowl. Curse? (or should I say Kerse?) What Curse(/Kerse)?

We all we got! We all we need!

And we NEVER give up!

Superbowl XLIX bound, baybee!

So. Incredibly. Happy. In fact, I'm about to spend $20 on an NFL subscription that allows me to rewatch the playoff game(s) until a week after the Superbowl. And I'll gladly do it. For my boys! SO PROUD!

Also, pretty sure all my customers (and a good amount of my coworkers) thought (or still think? Probably) that I was (am) absolutely crazy. Reminds me of watching the games with my Les Mis cast last year. I'm a crazy devoted fan. And I love my boys. And that game, and being at work for that game, just about ruined me. But we prevailed in an amazing fashion and I cannot wait for another good fight in two weeks.

Winter's Wrath

This has been me. Surrounded by kleenex. Hacking up a lung.
Ugh, sorry to have abandoned my blog the last few days, but I've felt like death. Sneezing, coughing, runny nose. The last four days have been hell. And that's included two days off where all I did was lay in bed and wallow.

I'm pretty sure it's the same cold that I had before the holidays, over Christmas, and that's now back with a vengeance. It always manifests a different way, but these hours and the hot apartment to cold outside air to hot work and back is totally ruining me.

Today, at least, I felt up for doing some laundry (well, guilted into it more like, thanks to a timely laundry episode of Friends. Thanks a lot, Netflix), so at least now I'll be sleeping in clean sheets in clean PJ's and tomorrow I go to work. Which is the worst.

I cannot believe that I literally called every number in the contact list at work to get someone to cover my shift tomorrow and the best I could get was someone to switch with me so that I am now working L/D1 instead of 5-cl... I'll still miss the football game, but at least I'll get outta there at a semi-decent hour and hopefully start feeling a bit better.

I'll Take It

I had all the big parties for lunch today. It was busy.
Well, I didn't quite get my wish. Today's lunch was busy, but manageable with everyone coming in between 12:30 and 1 and getting outta there by 2. I had the entire dining room and all the parties, but besides being somewhat hectic at certain points, it went well. Food came out quick(-ish) and right and everyone seemed happy enough.

I was, however, working with the two new girls, which normally wouldn't have been a problem at a Tuesday lunch, but since there were only 3 of us working and I knew I couldn't get any help from the two of them, it was more stressful that it probably should have been. The good thing is that they both seem to be pretty good. And we are training one more girl who I really like and who, if she passes her test tomorrow, agreed to TAKE MY SUNDAY CLOSING SHIFT!

So excited about that! Now, I'm just crossing my fingers that all goes well with her test-taking and I get manager approval for the switch (that's gonna be the tough one as it will be a BUSY Sunday and there will be two new girls closing if I switch).

I have tomorrow off and my plans include sleep, watching tv, relaxing, and maybe doing laundry (maybe. maybe). Cannot wait!

Twelve Hours Later

Turned around from yesterday's close (got home at 130) to be back at work at noon today knowing it'd be a long day because of the college football finals (way to Duck it up, Oregon. Seriously. Would have been nice for you to show up to the championship game...), but also knowing I wouldn't have to be back at work until noon on Tue. Yeah. Then I switched shifts with the new girl to help her out a bit.

Now I'm leaving about the same time I did yesterday and have to be back at work to open at 1030 tomorrow. Boooooooo. Do not want. And I still haven't found anyone to take my Sunday shift so that I could watch my Hawks. It's stressing me out. A lot. A lot a lot.

Wish me a boring lunch and dinner tomorrow so I can get outta there early.

The Boys Are Back

Bam Bam Kam to the rescue!
Kam was the man last night! Two jumps over the Panthers O line to almost block a field goal and then the above, the longest play in franchise playoff history: intercepting Cam Newton for a 90-yard pick 6. He's my boy. And I will get his jersey soon. I just ordered it. Paid entirely too much for it, but it's going to be worth it to be able to wear the entire LOB with pride!

And Sherm had an interception (almost two) and ETIII almost had a goal line interception too. Those are my boys. My D. YES!

Gear Head

Might have a bit of a Hawks Gear problem.
What I'm wearing today. A bit nervous to ride the subway looking like this. Not really. Just gonna be completely conspicuous. Oh well. Seattle would understand. Go Hawks!

Countdown to Playoff Time

Blue nails and my new Hawks beanie (both curtesy of la mama)
Hawks Game Day! YEEEEEES! Been waiting for this for the last two weeks. Let's beat stupid Cam Newton and his stupid Carolina Panthers, guys. GET IT!

Also, first day off in eight days. Thank the gods. Didn't see my schedule for next week before I left last night (probably because they were waiting for the new girl to pass her test to make it), so I'm hoping to everything ever that I have more than one day off next week and that it's on a Hawks game day.

Today, Maridee and I are gonna watch the game at Carlow together! Roomie date! Yes! I might even head over a bit earlier to watch the Pats/Ravens game beforehand, as well. We'll see if I feel up for that... Doing nothing is really appealing, too...

Still Cold...

So cold.
Icicles everywhere. So freezing. Hoping it's warmer at work today. Yesterday I was wearing a tank, a long sleeve shirt, and my stout shirt. I was also wearing my tight with two pairs of fleece-lined leggings over them.

Also, hoping that it's a busy enough day to make time go by fast, but not too crazy that I don't get out of there too late.

Day 8 of 8. Almost done with this craziness.

Gearing Up

In case you're wondering, I'll be the woman on the left (minus the baby carriage)
Yeah, so I'm getting ready to head to work and I just keep thinking about how cold it was on my two block walk home from the subway last night and thinking about how we're still in the cold weather advisory (it's 2pm and it's 19 degrees out, but "feels like" 1, according to my phone), and since I close, I have to leave home soon... It's going to be a cold commute to work and at 2am? And even colder commute home.

But today is day 7 of 8 (YAY!!!!!), we have a number of parties scheduled for tonight, so I might even make some monies, but with it being so frigid I wonder how late the parties will stay.

Tomorrow's 1230/D3 shift is going to be the worst though... Maybe a taxi home after work tonight would be worth it. Send me your strength today and tomorrow. I'll need it.

Wednesday, January 7, 2015

Frigid Bitch

Maybe not the snow, but it sure is freezing
Well, we're in a weather advisory for freezing temperatures for the next few days. And, dear god, it's COLD. I was wearing tons of layers and the parts that didn't have at least three or four layers were absolutely frigid by the time I got home.

I'm gonna have to wear more layers when I head to work tomorrow. Freezing, freezing, freezing. No me gusta.

'Snow Time Like the Present

My street as I left my apartment this morning
(You see what I did there? With the title? It's a funny joke...)

There was snow on the ground as I left for work this morning! SNOW! I love snow!

I'm exhausted. Work was hard today (and boring). I open tomorrow. To sleep right now.

Monday, January 5, 2015

One Time Only

Me(-ish). Right now. On my couch. Before 8pm!
It is wonderful to be here. Home. Before tomorrow. Or earlier today. Or whatever. You know what I mean. Before 8pm. I will now sit on the couch and zen out until I go to bed. Winning.

Today was so incredibly boring. Like, maybe ten tables all day. I think I made, like, $30 all day. Boooooo... Oh wells. I almost don't care because I'm home before 8pm. Yay!

Sleep All Day, Work All Night...

Me with my current work schedule...
Slept in until noon today. Set my alarm last night (well, really, early this morning) for 11:30 thinking "there's no way I'll sleep in that late", but I did. I even snoozed it for a half hour afterwards. Thank Nyquil that I did too, because I woke up feeling better than I have since I got back and slept like an absolute ROCK. Seriously, thanks Nyquil!

I woke up with enough energy to eat something and even unpack and pick up/sweep my room a bit before work. Woohoo! Getting things done!

And work was nice and slow. It cleared out pretty quickly after the Cowboys/Lions game and was pretty damn quiet after that. But we still made a decent amount of money. Plus, all of us there had been there last night, so it was like we were still shell-shocked from that shitshow. None of us were complaining...

That was day 3 of 8. After tomorrow's noon/D3 I'll be halfway done. Hoping for a boring day tomorrow too...

Sunday, January 4, 2015

The Worst

Me at the end of my shift...
Well, I just left work after 15.5 hours. Literally. I clocked out at 1:50am. I opened at 10:30am yesterday. I was on the floor until 1:15am. I had my one break at 1:15pm. Yup.

Exhausted. And about 8 or 9 I started to feel sick. Now, I'm not sure if I'm coming down with something or just so tired I can hardly move. The good news is I think we made some money. But on day 2 of 8 that is little consolation...
Wish me better luck tomorrow.

Back to It

Cannot. Stop. Watching. This.
Back at work again. After nine days. And it still felt too soon. Plus, it was super boring at work today, so it felt pointless. A 9.5 hour shift and I made so little monies...

But I found out that I have next Saturday off! So I get to watch my Hawks! MY HAWKS! Go Hawks! I can't wait to see them beat the Cardinals! Or the Panthers! Or the Lions!

I also journeyed to Target to pick up a new fan (my old one died before I left for Seattle and I kept forgetting to buy a new one), so I can, hopefully, sleep better tonight.

Tapped My Heels Together Three Times...

Home sweet home
I had a moment when we landed where I almost started crying about how happy I was to be home. And I realized that I think of NYC as home now. That alone made me glad that I went back to Seattle for Xmas.

Also, heard that Nana is doing worse, so I am super happy that I was able to say goodbye, give her a hug, and spend some time with her.

Plus, it's the new year, so I feel like I should make some resolutions.
1) Audition, audition, audition. I was going to say audition once a month or something like that, but I think I'll just focus on getting out there in general.
2) See more theatre. I'm in NYC and I haven't been taking advantage of the theatrical productions available to me.
3) Open myself up to new friends. I've been better at it since moving here, so I would like to continue that trend and maybe ramp it up a bit. I'm still really only friends with people I've know before I moved. I'd like to make some new ones here.
4) Cook more. Maybe start doing a Fresh Direct order once a month or so? Eat good food and eat better and that will happen when I cook more.
5) Find a gym and start working out. The usual resolution, I know, but it's a good one and I feel like I need it.

I am also going to try to do a little cleanse for January and not drink at all this month (might be tough with playoffs coming up), but I'm at least going to try...
