Where I'm gonna be doing my teacher training starting MONDAY!

Well, I've been doing yoga for six or seven years, and starting on Monday, I step up to learn A WHOLE LOT MORE and hopefully become a yoga teacher! I am really excited about it, but CRAZY nervous. I've gone to yoga four times this week and hope to go tomorrow, too...

Yep, the best way to prepare is to practice. And read some of the books that I ordered from Amazon all about yoga. There's a bunch. And they're real big.

So, lots of WSF shows in NYU theaters and halls, and this warning is in all the elevators. It always makes me giggle.

Plus, yesterday the Science and Story event I worked had Rebecca Skloot speaking, the author of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks. It was awesome! I got to meet her, and help her fix her bra strap, and talk to her! It was rad.

Prospect Park-ing

My day on Sunday. Prospect Park. All day.

YES! It's summer weather and with last week being Memorial Day weekend, and my last free time before I started WSF2015 and then head straight into yoga teacher training...

Yup. Needed some park time for sure!

World Science Always!

World Science Festival all weekend! A quick lil five day job (that my roomie, Aislinn, runs) right before I start my yoga teacher training on Monday.

I am actually working both these events, too. With a astronaut. I am astronaut-sitting the next two days. (SQUEEEEEE!)

She's a lil shit, but I love her! And seriously, she's a lil shit. She always wants to be ON MY LAP, especially when I'm eating food. And climbs all over everything. And gets into everything. But I still love her!

One of the last errands I ran last Friday was to Stout to grab my check and my favorite manager gave me this giant (comes up to my elbow) poster of Marilyn! He and his bf are redecorating their place and this didn't fit anywhere, so he thought of me! And brought it to Stout last Friday to give it to me! w00t!

I haven't hung it up yet, but I know just where I'm gonna put it.

So, it's officially summer weather here in NY (and yes, I'm all caught up from when the fam was here. Get used to more blog updates and quicker blogposts).

Yay! Can't believe how quickly it went from 50's to 80's. But it's still not too hot yet.

In Union Square we saw the Chrysler Building at night! And some guy's head got in the way.

Tried to get a pic of the Chrysler Building at night, and then some guy walked RIGHT into the frame.

Friday was Seestor time and, while we didn't get the tattoos that we had wanted to get together, we did go shopping and Seestor really nailed it with a bunch of swimsuits and jeans. And I got a tank top. And some sports bras. Hers was more exciting.

Then we met the parents (who'd been doing a walking tour of Greenwich) for the Yankee game! It was so weird though. They were playing the Orioles, so... we didn't really care who won (the Yankees).

Then the Seestor and I met Jess and went out in the East Village.

The Seestor, Pam and I split off from the father so he could go to a Cornell football reunion and I took them to the Flatiron Building and we went shopping around 5th Ave and into Union Square. Good times. I was able to get a BUNCH of yoga workout stuff (since I've split 2 pairs of pants in the crotch) and the Seestor got a good scarf. 

Then we wandered into the LES to grab foodz, met up the Father, and the Seestor and I had fun grabbing one more drink before heading home. She then, unfortunately, headed uptown thinking, "I don't wanna head downtown because that's into midtown" forgetting that my city is so big that we have uptown (Harlem/Bronx), midtown (Times Square) and downtown (FiDi/Brooklyn). Yeah. She didn't get home until REEEEEEAAAAAL late... Sorry Seestor!

Hadn't been to MoMA since I visited friends here... Uh... upwards of 5-6 years ago, so it was great to go. Usually I hate pictures of art in galleries, but I did take a couple (mostly to send to la mama!) and also to remember what art I liked. Plus, Dad had somehow NEVER BEEN to MoMA! So, it was fun to introduce him to some of my favorite art works! Live! In person!

So... 30 Rock lied to me! Though this is the same area (right around Columbus Circle) as 30 Rock, it's not in front of the building. So, I took a bunch of pics and then kinda got upset. But still, really cool pic!

Top of the Rock was FANTASTIC! Insane amounts of people, but really gorgeous views! Especially right during the sunset! Glad to finally see how GIGANTIC my city (albeit, not my borough) is!

Curiosity Killed the Dog

We went to see the Tony nominee for Best Play (among others!), The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime for my (early) birthday giftie from the fan! GREAT SHOW! Amazing seats! Really, really good time! It should def win the Tony. Just sayin'.

Out of the (Frying) Pan, Into the Fire

For Cinco de Mayo dinner, I took the family to The Frying Pan, a barge tied to the Chelsea Pier where they had margaritas, Cinco de Mayo swag giveaways, and some Mexican food specials. We got there pretty early, and left before the craziness ensued, but it's definitely one of my favorite spots for foodz/drinkz in Chelsea and the West Side.

Then, since it was still pretty early, the Seestor came back with me and we went for a night run along Eastern Parkway and into Bed-Stuy and we saw the Empire State Building all lit up! I didn't know I could see that from my neck of the woods! It was pretty cool.

Needless to say, that day culminated as a 30,000+ step day... Yesh. Tired.

And, so am I an hour later... The rest of the week(!) will be updated... some other time...

Grafitti (or is it)?

I found where the trains live!

The Highline is pretty awesome. It's an old converted above ground train line that they converted into a walking path allowing the natural weeds, flowers, trees that pushed themselves up through the old train tracks to continue to grow, while adding a bunch more flora and a walking path with differently curated art installations throughout. There's even a little pagoda with food and drink. It's pretty rad.

The (Other) Market

After we got off the train in Chelsea (after a little bit of train confusion by me... Whoops. The Seestor distracted me), we wandered through Chelsea Market and the Seestor got a couple cool things (a bracelet! A ring!), I got a cool thing (a scarf!), Pam got a cool thing (a bag!), and we picked up a Mom's Day giftie for la mama (another bag!).

Everyone loved Chelsea Market, as I knew they would, and we finished it with gelato!

Cinco de Walk-o

Tuesday was Cinco de Mayo and it started with Jacki, Kent & Ben heading back up to Ithaca before Lindy, Dad and Pam met me at my place and we headed to High Street to walk the Brooklyn Bridge. I'd never walked it before (Jess and I did the Williamsburg Bridge back in October), and it dumped us off right back in FiDi where we grabbed a coffee before heading into Chelsea.

Sounders til I Die!

We met at Carlow before the Sounders v NYCFC game on Sunday (we won 3-1!) and the Supporter's Shield made the trip to NY, too! And I got to touch it!

Plus, it was my first time to Yankee Stadium! Very much with the fun!

Oh yeah, and Obama was in town on Monday, so we saw his helicopter landing right before we got onto the ferry. So, that happened. Only in New York.

Never Forget

On Monday we met sorta early to head to the 9/11 Museum (completely overwhelming and super sad... Kinda don't think I could do it again) and spent four or five hours wandering around it. It was super hard knowing all the streets that they were talking about since I worked right down there for so long and knew all the streets around there...

Afterwards, we grabbed lunch in FiDi and headed along the waterfront to take the Staten Island ferry and see Lady Liberty and the gorgeous views of downtown! And they were indeed GORGEOUS!!!

Mambo Italiano!

Yay! Full family time! I met a lot of my cousins' husbands (who I haven't met, 'cause theatre) and got to see the cousins again and catch up with Aunt Ann and Uncle Paul and then splitting off to head back to my place (where I saw the ridiculous MOOOOOON) to prepare for the big fight.

That turned out to be a total dud. Boo. And Pacquio didn't even win. Stupid. But still! Went to the local bar for the first time! And I wasn't the only white person!

A Walk in the Park

So, on Friday Jacki, Kent, Ben, Dad and Pam all arrived around 3pm and we met at my place to give them a little tour before heading over to Franklin to Barbacino for pizza! Then Dad, Pam and I went to my fav local dive, Franklin Place for drinks before we all walked back to their place in Bed-Stuy (a 40 min walk or so) to grab the car for Dad and me to pick up the Seestor from JFK!

Then everyone was in the city!

Saturday, I did the yoga and then met them all on Franklin again to walk over to Prospect Park and wander the perimeter in the glorious weather while my dad returned the rental car to JFK.
