Just Vote

Proud early morning voter!
So, I did it! I totally woke up early to vote in the NY primary the Tuesday after I last posted and there were a good chunk of other people there waiting to vote, too! Definitely the most I've ever seen at my polling station. I was there at 8am, and then treated myself to a leisurely walk to Franklin for a bagel and iced coffee (it was a very beautiful day that day) before trekking out to LIC for rehearsal. Totally worth it!

Plus, I love that "I voted" sticker! There's honestly, nothing like it to me!

And, yes, the NY primary rules are stupidly complicated and unnecessarily exclusionary, but I was happy to see that even my registered Independent friends, went to polls, filled out an affidavit, and (hopefully) made their voice known. If nothing else, this primary system clearly needs reorganizing. Oregon just passed a law that makes everyone eligible to vote, no registration necessary, the second they turn 18! I love that idea. I feel like, if, on the day of the primary, you should want to show up to the polls and fill in a bubble, even if you've never voted before, or are a registered Independent/Republican/Unaffiliated, you should be able to make your choice. Anyway, there were issues. It was controversial, but nearly twice as many Democrats turned out to vote, than Republicans, and I like the way that looks.

I'm always proud to go to the polls and submit my drop in the ocean. Without my vote, nothing may change, but with all our votes, something will.
