Goodnight, Sweet Prince

One of my favorite Prince quotes, the quote board at work, and the board outside one of my fav restaurants on Franklin.
Since I last posted, the world has lost another amazing artist. 2016 is really bringing the hurt early amd hard. But Prince, because he was so young, so prolific, and so unique, was another amazing inspiration that touched me in all the right places. I spent most of that Thursday (when I was above ground) listening to The Current, the Minnesota public radio station that broadcast in chronological order, all of Prince's records. Singing along while I walked down the street, while I cooked, while I memorized, while I ate.

And it really felt like everyone took his death hard. Not that I'm surprised, but I think everyone has a "Prince story" and, like Bowie, he was able to reach out to people of nearly every generation in a way many current artists can't imagine.

That night, Brooklyn held a HUGE Prince party, but with my crazy schedule, I had to miss out on it. I dunno. It's tough to think of someone so amazing and prolific and inventive no longer producing their art. I definitely took some time to relish in the fact that I am doing what I love. And that is why I'm so busy. Focusing on the now, and making the most of what I'm doing. Digging in, never being satisfied, or taking the easy way out. Basically, just doing the WORK. Because it's that work that will pay the most dividends. If it was easy, everyone would act. It's not. And I love it more because I have to put in 300% to get to a place where I am satisfied. The love is in the work. That's what these amazing artists teach me. And that's what I'm trying to remember when I'm exhausted and overworked and broke. I'm in the most amazing city in the whole world, working on, arguably, some of the best English language plays ever written. It's not easy, but there's nowhere else I'd rather be.

Stay present. Stay appreciative. Work hard.
