The Better to See You With, My Dear...

So much glowtape. All over the stairwell.
I've been wanting to take this picture since the first time I worked at Ithaka (way back in December!) because I think it's hilarious. I mean, look at all the glow tape they used! This is the stairway in between the two floors occupied by the company I'm temping for, and since the elevator is stupid slow, I use it all the time ti deliver mail, check that the kitchen on the floor below is stocked, deliver milk to the fridge, run the dishwasher... and I'm sure other things that I'm forgetting.

Honestly, it took until this assignment for me to figure out why the entire staircase would be glow-taped from top to bottom since the light automatically turn on the second you walk out of the door, but I realized it's for emergencies. In case the lights go out or power gets cut, everyone can safely get out of the building. Probably, after September 11th (I'd say I'm 5 or 6 blocks from the WTC) and Sandy (Manhattan lost power starting at 50th st or so) they implemented this for everyone's safety. So, even though it's in case of a disaster, I enjoy the reliance on this theatre staple. It really works...
